A number of teachers and education professionals across Dubai’s private sector, from early childhood centres and schools to universities, were granted the UAE’s 10-year residency permit, known as the Golden Visa, to mark World Teachers’ Day. The visas were awarded under the directives of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, to individuals who, according to the Dubai Government, demonstrated exceptional performance and made significant contributions to developing the next generation.

Sheikh Hamdan announced the Golden Visa initiative for outstanding private-sector educators on October 5, 2024. The initiative forms part of the Dubai Education Strategy 2033 (E33), which aims to attract and retain highly skilled educators. According to figures published by the Emirates News Agency (WAM), about 835 education professionals have applied since the initiative was launched. In the first round, announced on October 4, 2025, 223 of 435 applicants were awarded Golden Visas. Of these, 157 worked in schools, 60 at universities and six in early childhood centres.

The Dubai Government said candidates are selected through a comprehensive professional assessment based on fair and transparent criteria. The evaluation considers academic qualifications, outstanding achievements, contributions to the advancement of education and the wider community, and positive feedback from parents and students.

Applicants must work at a private educational institution in Dubai, including an early childhood centre, school or university, and demonstrate outstanding academic achievements or innovation in education. They must also have a proven record of improving educational quality, delivering a positive and measurable impact, and earning recognition within the education community. Other requirements include playing an effective role in improving student outcomes, such as academic progress and the attainment of recognised qualifications. Further details on eligibility and the application process are available on the website of Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), the emirate’s private education regulator.
