As the end of August approaches, many Dubai residents are looking forward to relief from the summer heat. Seasonal patterns suggest temperatures begin to ease gradually in late August, although noticeably cooler weather is usually not felt until October.

Meteorological summer in the UAE ends on August 31, while astronomical summer continues until the autumnal equinox on September 23. The appearance of the Suhail star around August 24 is also traditionally seen in the region as marking the start of a gradual decline in the intensity of the heat, although it does not bring an immediate drop in temperatures.

Published forecasts for Dubai indicate that average high and low temperatures in September will be around 39°C and 28°C. These are expected to fall to about 35°C and 25°C in October, making outdoor conditions more comfortable, particularly at night and in the early morning.

The drop in temperatures will become more noticeable in November, when average daytime and night-time temperatures are expected to reach around 31°C and 20°C. In December, the average high is forecast to be about 26°C, with lows of around 17°C, creating the conditions that define Dubai’s popular outdoor season.

UAE experts also say the first genuinely cool nights usually arrive from mid-October, when night-time temperatures in some areas fall below 20°C. Daytime highs below 30°C are most common from mid-November to mid-March.

Therefore, if “cooler weather” means the end of extreme heat, the transition begins in late September. However, October—and especially November—marks the main turning point in Dubai for weather that is truly suitable for sitting outdoors, walking and longer outdoor activities.
