Indian woman in Sharjah throws daughter from building before falling to death; husband questioned
New details have emerged regarding the deaths of an Indian expatriate woman and her young daughter, who reportedly died at a residential building in Sharjah.
According to eyewitnesses and building staff, the 35-year-old mother first threw her five-year-old daughter from a high-rise tower in the Al Nahda area of Sharjah before jumping herself.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:15 AM on Wednesday.
Shocked neighbors stated that the woman threw her daughter first and then jumped from the balcony of their 15th-floor apartment. Since the building includes six levels of parking and one gym floor, the victims effectively fell from a height equivalent to 22 stories above ground level.
The building security guard said he heard a loud thud, ran outside, and discovered the bodies of the child and the woman; the child was on the street while the mother lay on the sidewalk beneath the 32-story tower.
He immediately notified the police and emergency services. Authorities arrived at the scene, and police cordoned off the area until about 10:30 AM.
After the bodies were transported by ambulance, the site was cleaned and covered with sand. However, some traces remained visible as late as Saturday afternoon.
Husband questioned
Neighbors mentioned that police had visited the building the previous day following a report of a domestic dispute. The security guard noted that the husband had told him his wife suffered from mental health issues.
The husband, who works as an aircraft resource allocator in Dubai, has been taken into custody for questioning by authorities.
According to those familiar with the family, the couple, originally from the Indian state of Kerala, had been married for 12 years. Building management confirmed they had lived in the same apartment for more than seven years.
The woman’s sister and her family lived in an adjacent apartment in the same building, while her father-in-law and brother-in-law’s family also reside in the UAE. Previous reports indicated the woman managed an online business.
"She always said goodbye and waved"
Residents expressed their shock and grief. The security guard fondly remembered the little girl, saying she would turn and wave to him every morning when her father took her to school.
"She was very kind to everyone in the building," he said.
Sharjah Police had earlier confirmed that the case has been recorded as a suicide and referred to the Public Prosecution for further investigation.
