Dubai RTA launches mobile vehicle inspection service Aber for on-site testing

Are you planning to sell your car and need to book a technical inspection? You no longer need to travel to a testing center. Drivers in the UAE can now have their vehicles inspected on-site, as Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a new service called Aber, which dispatches mobile inspection units to customers at any location across the country.

The RTA stated: "At home, at work, or for your company fleet; vehicle inspection now comes to you."

This initiative is the latest example of the growing trend of on-demand automotive services in the UAE. It follows the success of mobile refueling services like Cafu, which allow drivers to receive fuel at their location instead of stopping at a petrol station.

How to book?

Aber mobile inspection units are fully equipped and operated by RTA-certified inspectors. To book an appointment, residents should visit one of the RTA’s digital channels. They must select the desired location, test date, and the number of vehicles to be inspected. Customers can register up to nine vehicles for inspection per visit.

The unit provides a wide range of services, including:

- Vehicle registration renewal test

- Vehicle ownership transfer test

- Vehicle export test

- Vehicle data and information update test

Fees start from AED 370, though this amount may vary depending on additional services and applicable service fees.

Required Documents

- Original Emirates ID

- Vehicle registration card, or Mulkiya

- Valid vehicle insurance, if required

- Advertising permit, if required

- Trade license, for company-owned vehicles if required

The RTA stated that additional documents or requirements may be necessary depending on the vehicle type and test category.

Other Aber Services

In addition to vehicle inspection services, Aber includes on-site inspection of machinery and equipment, with fees starting from AED 190. This service covers up to five units or pieces of equipment per visit. It is designed for businesses and equipment owners who require official RTA testing without the need to transport heavy, non-roadworthy, or operational machinery to a testing center. Inspection results are recorded directly in the RTA system.

Supported test types include:

- Vehicle registration test

- Vehicle registration renewal test

- Vehicle export test

- Vehicle ownership transfer test

- Vehicle information test

To use this service, only the vehicle registration card or vehicle certificate is required.

Food trucks can also be inspected for quality using Aber units. Starting from AED 225, the Aber vehicle testing service conducts inspections and issues or renews permits for the following categories of food transport vehicles:

- Refrigerated vehicles

- Freezer vehicles

- Dry food transport vehicles

The Aber service also allows companies to inspect their heavy vehicle fleets to ensure businesses remain compliant with RTA requirements. Special corporate packages are also available.
