Fuel prices in the United Arab Emirates have increased starting today, May 1, with motorists expected to pay between AED 13 and AED 21 more to fill their tanks compared to April, depending on the vehicle and fuel type.

According to the rates announced for May, Super 98 petrol has risen to AED 3.66 per litre, Special 95 to AED 3.55 per litre, and E-Plus 91 to AED 3.48 per litre. The price of diesel remains unchanged at AED 4.69 per litre.

The UAE Fuel Price Committee determines these rates monthly based on average global oil prices and the operational costs of fuel distribution companies. The May price hike comes as regional tensions and rising crude oil prices exert fresh pressure on the global energy market.

Under the new rates, the cost of a full tank for a small car with an average capacity of 51 litres will reach AED 186.66 for Super 98, AED 181.05 for Special 95, and AED 177.48 for E-Plus 91. For sedans with a 62-litre tank, the figures will be AED 226.92, AED 220.10, and AED 215.76, respectively.

For SUVs with an average capacity of 74 litres, the cost of a full tank in May has increased to AED 270.84 for Super 98, AED 262.70 for Special 95, and AED 257.52 for E-Plus 91.

The rise in fuel prices is expected to increase the cost of daily commutes, family travel, and logistics across the UAE. This change will be felt in the monthly budgets of residents, including the Iranian expatriate community who rely heavily on private vehicles. If oil prices continue to rise, this increase could also impact transportation costs and various related services.
