Fatima Abdulrahman Al Awadhi, a 19-year-old Emirati mountaineer, has become the first UAE citizen and the youngest Arab to summit a peak exceeding 7,000 meters after successfully climbing Peak Lenin in Kyrgyzstan.

Al Awadhi reached the 7,134-meter summit of Peak Lenin in the Pamir Mountains on July 18, 2026, where she raised the UAE flag. This marks the first time the UAE flag has been hoisted atop this peak.

Peak Lenin is considered one of Central Asia’s most challenging climbs due to harsh weather conditions, glacial paths, and the extended time climbers must spend at altitudes above 7,000 meters. The expedition lasted approximately three weeks, involving an acclimatization phase followed by the final push to the summit. Al Awadhi completed the ascent without the use of supplemental oxygen.

This climb represents her highest sporting achievement to date. Only a year ago, Al Awadhi conquered her first major peak, Mount Elbrus, the highest mountain in Europe at 5,642 meters. Her previous successful climbs include Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, Vinson Massif in Antarctica, and the Carstensz Pyramid in Oceania.

The young mountaineer has now conquered four of the Seven Summits—the highest peaks on each of the seven continents—and aims to complete the challenge before turning 20. She is also pursuing the Explorers Grand Slam, a feat that involves reaching the highest peak on every continent as well as both the North and South Poles.

Al Awadhi, who is also a full-time student, dedicated her achievement to UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak. She expressed her hope that this accomplishment would inspire Emirati youth, particularly young women, to pursue challenging and ambitious goals.
