A new nutrition label will soon appear on food products in Dubai. Consumers and food businesses will be able to use the simple traffic light-style label to verify the accuracy of nutritional information displayed on products.

Dubai Central Laboratory has launched a new specialised service that tests food products and uses an A-to-E grading system to classify the accuracy of the information provided on labels.

The initiative will help manufacturers and suppliers verify their products’ nutritional information before or after they enter the market. This will allow companies to ensure labels are accurate, improve regulatory compliance and build greater trust among regulators and customers.

The new label will also make purchasing decisions easier for shoppers. Instead of examining complex nutrition tables, consumers can quickly compare products by checking their A-to-E rating and choose an option that better suits their dietary needs.

The scheme is just one of Dubai’s initiatives to promote healthier eating.

Schools and universities in Dubai have also been encouraged to offer healthier meals under enhanced food and nutrition guidelines introduced by Dubai Municipality in 2025.

Under the regulations, educational institutions must reduce added sugar, increase fibre intake, encourage water consumption and minimise food waste.

The guidelines also set standards for portion sizes to ensure consistent portion control and clear, uniform labelling.

Tea and coffee services will also be regulated, while educational institutions must plan for more sustainable meals by promoting the use of locally sourced ingredients.
