UAE Intensifies Consumer Protection Measures Amid Price Concerns

The UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism has announced intensified monitoring and consumer protection measures across the country, an action taken in response to growing concerns about prices and market conditions, with the aim of ensuring economic stability and transparency.

According to an official statement from the ministry, a total of 8,168 inspections of markets and businesses were conducted in various regions of the UAE between February 28th and March 18th. These inspections were carried out to ensure compliance with consumer protection laws and to combat potential violations.

Enforcement Against Violators

The results of these inspections indicate that:

Warnings were issued to 729 violating businesses.
 216 fines were imposed, ranging from AED 2,000 to AED 200,000.

Increase in Public Complaints

Concurrently with these measures, the UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism announced that a total of 2,441 complaints were received from consumers between February 28th and March 17th, 2026.

According to the details released:

1,994 of these complaints related to rising food prices.
 9 related to the hotel sector.
* 438 related to other areas.

Additional Measures to Stabilize the Market

In addition to intensified inspections, extensive public awareness campaigns have also been launched nationwide. These programs are implemented to reassure citizens about the availability of goods, price stability, and increased public awareness of consumer rights.

UAE authorities have emphasized that these measures will continue within the framework of macro policies to maintain market balance, protect consumers, and combat any potential abuse.
