Labor accommodations across the UAE must provide improved services and conditions for residents according to new standards from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), including free internet, regular cleaning, enhanced safety, and better facilities for daily life.

Under the new guidelines, workers must have access to free internet at their accommodation to stay in touch with their families and use online services.

In complexes housing 1,000 or more workers, medical services will be strengthened. These centers must have facilities such as first aid rooms and, in some cases, on-site clinics. The guidelines also emphasize the creation of recreational spaces and common areas for workers to rest.

The new standards also specify conditions inside the rooms. Each worker must have a suitable bed, personal storage space, a lockable cupboard, clean bedding, and basic room amenities. Additionally, proper ventilation, cooling systems, window curtains, and sufficient space for each individual are mandatory. Cooking inside rooms is prohibited to maintain hygiene and safety.

Regarding hygiene, accommodations must be cleaned daily, have proper waste disposal systems, and implement pest control measures. Bathrooms, kitchens, and dining halls must be maintained according to the number of residents and in compliance with health standards.

The new guidelines also emphasize safety and disease prevention. Accommodations must be equipped with first aid rooms, isolation spaces for the sick, disease control programs, emergency exits, and fire safety systems. Regular inspections will be conducted to ensure compliance with these requirements.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has also introduced a system for classifying violations. Issues such as overcrowding, poor ventilation, lack of clean water, and fire safety defects are recognized as serious violations and must be addressed immediately.

These regulations are implemented with the aim of improving the quality of life for workers, increasing health and safety, providing a cleaner and more respectful environment, and reducing risks arising from inadequate infrastructure.

According to this manual, employers are required to either provide accommodation that meets approved standards or pay a housing allowance. Companies employing a larger number of low-income workers must ensure their housing is regularly maintained and complies with all new requirements.
