Dubai Traffic Court fined a young man a total of AED 5,000 for driving without a valid licence, hitting a pedestrian at a designated crossing and fleeing the scene. The vehicle owner was also fined AED 1,000 for allowing someone he knew was unlicensed to drive the vehicle.

The incident occurred in Dubai’s Al Raffa area. According to court records, the driver failed to pay sufficient attention to road conditions or reduce his speed as he approached the pedestrian crossing. He struck a pedestrian using the designated crossing, causing injuries and damage to the vehicle.

The driver left the scene without stopping and made no attempt to assist the injured pedestrian or call an ambulance. The court said his liability extended beyond causing the accident, with unlicensed driving, failing to exercise due care at a pedestrian crossing and fleeing after becoming aware that someone had been injured constituting a series of related offences.

The court relied on evidence including the traffic report, accident sketch, inspection findings and the driver’s confession during the investigation.

The court found that three offences — causing injury through negligence, damaging property and leaving the scene without a valid reason — were connected and imposed a combined fine of AED 3,000. A separate AED 2,000 fine was imposed for driving without a valid licence, bringing the driver’s total financial penalty to AED 5,000.

The vehicle owner was convicted after the court found that he had knowingly allowed the defendant to use the vehicle despite being aware that he did not hold a driving licence, thereby contributing to the unlicensed driving offence. He was fined AED 1,000.
