An Abu Dhabi court has ordered a woman to repay Dh225,000 she borrowed from a man, after reviewing bank transfers and WhatsApp messages exchanged between the two parties. The court also ordered her to pay Dh10,000 in compensation for damages suffered by the claimant.

According to case documents from the Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Claims Court, the woman asked the man for a loan because she was facing financial difficulties. The claimant transferred Dh150,000 to her account, followed by another Dh75,000, bringing the total to Dh225,000.

In his lawsuit, the man said the woman had acknowledged receiving the money and agreed to repay it in messages exchanged between them. However, she failed to settle the debt despite repeated requests. To support his claim, he submitted bank transfer records and copies of their electronic conversations to the court.

The court found that the woman had not effectively disputed the debt or its amount and had provided no evidence that she had repaid the Dh225,000. Her statements in court also contradicted the electronic conversations. However, she neither challenged the authenticity of the messages nor provided evidence disproving their contents.

In addition to repayment of the principal amount, the claimant sought Dh20,000 in compensation and reimbursement of case-related expenses. After establishing that the woman’s failure to repay the debt had caused financial and emotional harm, the court awarded Dh10,000 in compensation and ordered her to pay the legal costs. The claimant’s remaining requests were dismissed.
