Dubai's Salik Road Toll System to Implement Variable Pricing During Ramadan

Dubai's electronic road toll system, Salik, plans to implement a variable pricing structure for its toll gates during the holy month of Ramadan.

Last year, the Dubai toll system shifted to a "dynamic pricing" model to alleviate traffic congestion on the city's busiest routes, and now the system is set to undergo further changes during Ramadan. This year's Ramadan is expected to be 30 days long, beginning on Thursday, February 19th. To accommodate those fasting and traveling during Iftar and Suhoor, toll fees and timings will be slightly adjusted.

Salik Toll Gate Pricing Changes Detailed

Toll charges will be waived at all ten Salik gates across Dubai from 2:00 AM to 7:00 AM. This initiative aims to facilitate movement for those observing Ramadan, enabling them to attend morning prayers and pre-dawn gatherings. This adjusted timing shifts the previous free period, which ran from 1:00 AM to 6:00 AM.

During the morning peak hours, between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM, the toll fee will be reduced from AED 6 to AED 4. However, during the busiest period of the day, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, drivers will be required to pay AED 6. On Sundays, this peak hour charge will revert to AED 4.

Difference from Standard Annual Schedule

During Ramadan, instead of two four-hour peak traffic windows, there will be one continuous eight-hour period (9:00 AM to 5:00 PM) with higher charges. During the rest of the year, drivers typically pay AED 6 between 6:00 AM and 10:00 AM, and again from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Additionally, a longer period for the reduced tariff has been introduced in the evenings and at night. From 5:00 PM to 2:00 AM, the toll fee will be AED 4. (For the rest of the year, this tariff only applies from 8:00 PM to 1:00 AM).

On Sundays, the AED 4 tariff will be in effect from 7:00 AM to 2:00 AM, with free passage from 2:00 AM to 7:00 AM, as on other days.
