Abu Dhabi Pile-Up Leaves Several Vehicles Overturned
Abu Dhabi Police warned of the dangers of distracted driving and stopping vehicles in the middle of the road after releasing footage of a multi-vehicle crash on one of the emirate’s highways. Both behaviours can lead to secondary collisions and serious accidents.
In the first part of the video, a white car collides with a pickup truck, forcing the truck towards a barrier on the left side of the road before it overturns and slides into an adjacent lane. Several vehicles then stop in the middle of the highway, while some drivers use their mobile phone flashlights to warn approaching motorists.
In the second part, a vehicle blocking two lanes is struck by another car after its driver apparently fails to spot the obstruction in time. The impact triggers a multi-vehicle pile-up, with another vehicle eventually overturning.
Abu Dhabi Police have warned motorists not to stop in the middle of the road during emergencies unless absolutely necessary. Where possible, drivers should continue to the nearest exit or safe location. If a vehicle cannot be moved due to a breakdown, the driver should call 999 for assistance.
Under traffic regulations, stopping on the road without a valid reason can result in a Dh1,000 fine and six black points. Slowing down to view an accident scene, known as “rubbernecking”, may also incur a fine of up to Dh1,000. The behaviour causes congestion, obstructs emergency responders and increases the risk of secondary accidents.
Police urged motorists to remain fully focused, avoid distractions and respond to unexpected road situations by maintaining a safe distance and staying alert.
