Abu Dhabi Police have warned motorists against stopping suddenly or reversing after missing an exit, releasing a video showing crashes caused by dangerous reversing on roads.

The video, released in cooperation with the Monitoring and Control Centre, aims to raise awareness of the dangers of such behaviour and its consequences for other road users.

Abu Dhabi Police’s Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate stressed that reversing on roads, particularly after passing an exit or diversion, can lead to serious crashes.

Police said stopping suddenly and reversing could confuse approaching motorists and increase the risk of severe collisions, injuries, and damage to vehicles and property.

Abu Dhabi Police urged motorists who miss their intended exit to continue driving and use the next exit to reach their destination safely.

According to police, dangerous reversing on roads carries a fine of AED 500 and four black points on the driver’s licence.

In more serious cases where driving endangers lives or property, the penalty includes a fine of AED 2,000, 23 black points and the impoundment of the light vehicle for 60 days.

Abu Dhabi Police urged motorists to comply with traffic regulations and avoid sudden and dangerous manoeuvres to prevent crashes and protect all road users.
