Funeral Prayer and Condolence Arrangements Announced for Dubai Ruler’s Brother
The funeral prayer and condolence arrangements for Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the youngest brother of the Ruler of Dubai, who died on Monday morning, have been announced. The funeral prayer will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, September 22, at Zabeel Grand Mosque in Dubai.
According to the official announcement, condolences will be received for three days, from Tuesday to Thursday, at Zabeel Majlis, where members of Dubai’s ruling family host official gatherings.
On Tuesday, condolences will be received from 4pm until the Maghrib prayer. On Wednesday and Thursday, mourners may attend from 10am until the Dhuhr prayer, and again from after the Asr prayer until the Maghrib prayer.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum died on the morning of Monday, September 21, at the age of 76. He was the fourth and youngest son of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, former Ruler of Dubai, and the youngest brother of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the current Ruler of Dubai.
Following his death, Dubai declared 10 days of official mourning, with flags across the emirate flown at half-mast from Monday. The cause of death has not been disclosed in the official announcement.
Sheikh Ahmed was a longstanding member of the Al Maktoum family and held responsibilities in the military, policing and public security throughout his career. He also played an active role in Dubai’s sporting sector for many years, including football, horse racing and marine sports.
