UAE President Offers Condolences to Dubai Ruler on Brother’s Death; Emirate Rulers Attend Sheikh Ahmed’s Condolence Gathering
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, visited Zabeel Majlis in Dubai on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, to offer condolences to his brother, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, following the death of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Several other Rulers and senior UAE officials also attended.
Those present included Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah; Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Ruler of Fujairah; Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mu’alla, Ruler of Umm Al Quwain; Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah; and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President of the UAE.
The Crown Princes of Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah, along with members of the ruling families, ministers and government officials, also visited Zabeel Majlis to offer condolences to Sheikh Ahmed’s family. Attendees paid tribute to Sheikh Ahmed’s service to the UAE and its people since the early years of the country’s founding.
Sheikh Mohammed received condolences alongside his sons, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai; Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai; and Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum and several other members of Dubai’s ruling family also attended the ceremony.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum died on Monday, September 21, aged 76. Funeral prayers were held on Tuesday at Zabeel Grand Mosque, and he was laid to rest at Umm Hurair Cemetery in Dubai. He previously served as deputy head of Dubai Police and chaired Al Wasl Sports Club for many years.
Following his death, Dubai declared 10 days of official mourning. Flags across the emirate will be flown at half-mast during this period.
