UAE and Iranian Parliamentarians Stress Dialogue to Strengthen Regional Security
Dr Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, head of the UAE Federal National Council delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union and chairman of the council’s Defence, Interior and Foreign Affairs Committee, met Manouchehr Mottaki, head of Iran’s parliamentary delegation, on Tuesday on the sidelines of the 153rd IPU Assembly in Arusha, Tanzania.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to develop parliamentary cooperation between the UAE and Iran.
Al Nuaimi emphasised the important role of parliamentary institutions in strengthening relations and partnerships between countries, consolidating peace, security and stability, supporting sustainable development and advancing shared interests.
He said resolving regional crises required frank and sincere dialogue that took into account the interests of the region’s peoples and led to mutually agreed solutions aimed at strengthening regional and international security and stability.
Al Nuaimi also reaffirmed the UAE Federal National Council’s commitment to advancing parliamentary diplomacy and expanding channels of dialogue and communication with the parliaments of friendly and brotherly countries. He said this approach was in line with the UAE’s policy of supporting international cooperation and promoting the values of dialogue and mutual understanding.
The two sides stressed the importance of continued dialogue, coordination and consultation to advance shared interests, support regional security and stability, and strengthen good-neighbourly relations.
They also highlighted the role of parliaments in enhancing communication and addressing issues of mutual interest at international parliamentary forums, stressing that such engagement could help narrow differences and tackle regional and international challenges.
