Israeli Election: Neither Netanyahu Nor His Opponents Secure Parliamentary Majority
The first exit polls in Israel’s parliamentary election, released on the evening of Tuesday, October 27, indicate that neither Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition nor the opposition has secured the majority needed to form a government. According to projections by Israeli television channels 11, 12 and 13, Netanyahu’s coalition is expected to win 50 seats, while the opposition led by Gadi Eisenkot is projected to secure 52 to 53 seats in the 120-seat Knesset.
The polls project a combined 17 to 18 seats for Arab parties. Netanyahu’s Likud party is expected to remain the largest party in parliament with 24 to 25 seats, but neither of the two main blocs is set to reach the 61-seat threshold required for a majority.
Vote counting began after polling stations closed, and the figures are not yet official. The final count is expected to be completed by October 30, with the official election results due to be released on November 4.
