US President Donald Trump said Washington would not attack Iran before the congressional midterm elections and announced that “constructive talks” with Tehran were continuing. Meanwhile, Iran is reviewing the US response to a seven-day plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume negotiations.

On Thursday, October 8, the US president said the United States was engaged in constructive talks with Iran and would not launch an attack against the country before the US congressional midterm elections in November.

Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform: “We are engaged in constructive talks with the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

He stressed, however, that the US blockade of Iranian ports remained in place and that oil was passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump wrote: “We will not attack Iran at any time before the midterm elections, scheduled to take place in the United States on November 3.”
