Satellite Image Reveals World’s Largest Concentrated Solar Power Plant in Dubai
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has released a satellite image of the world’s largest single-site concentrated solar power complex, captured by the UAE’s Mohammed Bin Zayed Satellite (MBZ-SAT) at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.
The 700-megawatt concentrated solar power project is a key part of the park’s fourth phase, which has a total capacity of 950 megawatts, including photovoltaic solar panels. Developed at a cost of AED 15.78 billion, the fourth phase combines concentrated solar power technology with photovoltaic panels. Its solar tower, standing more than 263 metres tall, is recognised as the world’s tallest. The thermal energy storage system can store energy for up to 15 hours, enabling round-the-clock electricity generation.
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park covers 77 square kilometres and is located about 50 kilometres south of Dubai. Its electricity generation capacity is planned to reach 5,000 megawatts by 2030. MBZ-SAT, an advanced satellite developed entirely by Emirati engineers, was launched into space in January 2025 and is operated under the supervision of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre.
