Rare 888-Carat Black Diamond ‘Infinity’ Unveiled in Dubai
A rare natural black diamond named Infinity, weighing 888.88 carats, was unveiled in Dubai on Monday, October 26, 2026. The diamond was cut from a 1,138-carat rough stone whose history dates back more than 50 years.
Classified as Fancy Black, the stone was displayed for the first time at the seventh Dubai Diamond Conference, hosted by the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC).
From Congo to its unveiling in Dubai
The Infinity diamond originated in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The original rough stone was purchased in 1975 by Andrew Coxon on behalf of diamond company De Beers.
In 2013, the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) examined the 1,138-carat rough stone and identified it as the largest natural single-crystal diamond the institute had assessed at that time.
However, this designation does not mean it holds the record as the world’s largest natural diamond. It refers only to stones examined by the institute up to that point.
The stone was cut and polished between 2022 and 2024, ultimately producing the 888.88-carat Infinity diamond.
Diamond with exceptional natural features unveiled
The diamond was presented at the Dubai conference by Diamond Trading NV, based in Antwerp, Belgium. Security company Brink’s was responsible for transporting it safely to Dubai.
Daniel De Belder, owner of Diamond Trading NV, said efforts were made during the cutting process to preserve natural evidence of the stone’s formation and its rapid journey from deep within the Earth to the surface.
According to De Belder, some of the diamond’s features reflect the geological processes it underwent while travelling from a depth of about 150 kilometres below the Earth’s surface.
Despite Infinity’s size and rare characteristics, no valuation has been announced, and no information has been released about whether it may be offered for sale.
Dubai diamond trade hits record $41.7 billion
The unveiling of Infinity coincided with a gathering of international diamond industry leaders in Dubai.
According to the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre, the emirate’s diamond trade reached a record $41.7 billion in 2025, with natural diamonds accounting for 95.8 per cent of the total value.
