Dubai’s food and beverage sector continued its rapid expansion in the first half of 2026, with 1,898 new food establishments launching operations within six months. This represents an average of 316 new businesses per month, or approximately 10.5 daily.

These additions bring the total number of active food establishments in Dubai to 29,303, highlighting the sustained growth of one of the emirate’s most vibrant service economy sectors.

Alongside this market expansion, Dubai Municipality conducted 31,563 inspections of restaurants, cafes, and other food-related facilities during the first half of the year. These inspections aimed to ensure compliance with health regulations and food safety standards, safeguarding the well-being of both residents and tourists.

The sector's growth extended beyond new openings. During the same period, Dubai received 144,063 food shipments via sea, air, and land ports. These shipments comprised 193,955 containers and approximately 840,400 types of imported food products.

Dubai Municipality stated that imported shipments are monitored through a comprehensive risk-based assessment system. The inspection process begins in the country of origin, requiring importers to submit documentation—including health certificates, Halal certificates for meat products, certificates of origin, and shipping details—prior to arrival.

Upon arrival, officials verify documentation, physical condition, transport temperature, storage conditions, labeling, and expiration dates. Samples are also collected for laboratory testing when necessary.

The municipality further utilizes a smart system that enables inspectors to file reports directly from the field using mobile phones, tablets, and computers. This initiative is designed to enhance the speed and precision of monitoring across Dubai’s food market.
