Video: Abu Dhabi National Oil Company Tanker Attacked in Strait of Hormuz
The giant crude oil tanker ARZANAH, part of the fleet of ADNOC Logistics & Services, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, was attacked while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, October 29, 2026. India’s Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, confirmed the incident on Friday, October 30, saying the two Indian nationals on board were safe and unharmed. The extent of any damage and the identity of those responsible remain unknown.
According to Indian state broadcaster Akashvani, Sonowal said in a post on X that the Liberia-flagged ARZANAH was struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz on October 29. He said the Indian government was monitoring the welfare of the Indian crew members and was in contact with the tanker’s management company to ensure their safety.
The Indian shipping minister also confirmed that the Panama-flagged tanker LOUISE 1 was attacked on October 30. All 27 Indian crew members on board were reported safe. This means all 29 Indian nationals aboard the ARZANAH and LOUISE 1 survived the incidents unharmed.
An official statement from ADNOC Logistics & Services shows that the ARZANAH joined the company’s fleet on August 23, 2023, as its third dual-fuel very large crude carrier. Built by South Korea’s Hanwha Ocean, the vessel is 336 metres long. It can carry about two million barrels of crude oil, and its propulsion system is also capable of using liquefied natural gas.
According to specialist maritime databases, the Liberia-flagged ARZANAH operates under IMO number 9928023. Its registered owner is UAE-based Arzanah Inc, while Abu Dhabi-based ADNOC Logistics & Services is responsible for the vessel’s management and safety management. The tanker has a registered deadweight capacity of approximately 299,425 tonnes.
As of the publication of this report, no separate statement from ADNOC regarding the October 29 attack on the ARZANAH had been identified. No verified information was available on the extent of the damage, the status of the cargo, the total number of crew members or the vessel’s current location. The identity of those responsible also remains unknown.
The incident follows a series of attacks in recent months on vessels linked to Abu Dhabi National Oil Company. ADNOC previously confirmed in official statements that several of its vessels were attacked while transiting the Strait of Hormuz in August. In a statement issued on August 7, the company said 15 of its vessels had been targeted by missile and drone attacks since the start of regional hostilities, killing one crew member and injuring 20 others.
