Michael Jackson’s Iconic Red Jacket and Rhinestone-Studded White Glove Up for Auction in Abu Dhabi
The red-and-black leather jacket worn by Michael Jackson in the famous 1983 “Thriller” music video is set to go under the hammer in Abu Dhabi on December 7, 2026. The jacket previously sold for $1.8 million and could now set a new record.
Hosted by US auction house Julien’s Auctions, the sale will take place at Rosewood Abu Dhabi as part of the three-day “Icons and Pop Culture” event from December 7 to 9.
More than 100 items of Michael Jackson’s clothing, personal belongings and stage memorabilia will be offered at the event, with four pieces dating from 1983 among the highlights.
How much is the famous “Thriller” jacket worth?
The leather jacket was designed by Deborah Nadoolman Landis, wife of John Landis, who directed the “Thriller” music video. Only two versions were made for filming.
One was used in scenes featuring Jackson’s zombie look and remains in the collection of his estate. The other, which Jackson signed and gave to his costume designers Dennis Tompkins and Michael Bush, will now be auctioned in Abu Dhabi.
The jacket sold for $1.8 million to American businessman Milton Verret at a Beverly Hills auction in June 2011, setting a record for the most expensive jacket ever sold at auction.
However, Julien’s Auctions has yet to disclose a public estimate for the jacket’s resale price, with its estimated value available only upon request.
Famous moonwalk glove also up for auction
Another major item in the auction is Michael Jackson’s crystal-studded glove, worn during his performance of “Billie Jean” on the “Motown 25” television special in 1983, when he debuted his famous moonwalk.
The glove sold for $430,000 in 2009 and is now estimated to fetch between $600,000 and $800,000.
Two pairs of black leather shoes worn by Michael Jackson during performances in 1983 will also be included in the auction.
The items will be displayed in an exhibition at Emirates Palace Abu Dhabi from November 29 to December 5, ahead of the auction.
