A senior Egyptian Foreign Ministry official has rejected social media reports of the “mass dismissal” of Egyptian citizens from their jobs in the UAE and the widespread cancellation of their residence permits, saying inquiries by the Egyptian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the country’s Consulate General in Dubai found no evidence of such a trend.

Haddad El-Gohary, Egypt’s Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs, said visas continued to be issued to Egyptians as usual, while many Egyptian companies operating in the UAE were also securing visas for their employees. He said there had been cases of residence permits being cancelled or Egyptian citizens returning home, but these were isolated incidents and did not indicate a broader policy.

He said reviews of some cases found that the individuals concerned had breached UAE residency regulations or overstayed. In other cases, people had entered the UAE on tourist visas but failed to find employment and were required to return to Egypt after their permitted stay expired. These rules apply to all foreign nationals and are not specific to Egyptian citizens.

El-Gohary also said the two countries’ consular authorities would hold talks in October to review cases involving Egyptians whose residence permits had been cancelled or who had lost their jobs. He added that UAE officials had cooperated with the Egyptian side and that a committee had been formed to address potential issues affecting Egyptian residents and visitors in the UAE.

The denial came after Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to the UAE President, also dismissed reports on Wednesday concerning the “cancellation of employment residence permits” as false, saying some platforms were spreading misinformation about the UAE.

While acknowledging that some individual cases exist, officials from both countries stressed that there was no evidence of mass dismissals or widespread visa cancellations affecting Egyptians in the UAE.
