Individuals overstaying their visas in the UAE may require an exit permit to leave the country.
Individuals who remain in the UAE after their visa or residency has expired may require a Departure Permit to exit the country once all relevant fines have been settled. The regulations and application procedures in Dubai differ from those in the other emirates.
In Dubai, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) has announced that violators can visit any Amer center to apply for a departure permit. Applicants must select the required service, submit the necessary documents, pay the fees following a review, and register their application. The processing time for this service is up to 48 hours.
The current fee for issuing a departure permit through the Dubai GDRFA is AED 241. This figure differs from previous reports which cited a AED 200 application fee and AED 150 for electronic services. Therefore, applicants are advised to verify current tariffs with official authorities before proceeding.
For emirates where immigration services are managed by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP), the base fee for a departure permit includes a AED 200 application fee and AED 100 for smart services. Required documents include a passport, a personal photograph, and a travel ticket with a departure date no later than seven days after the permit is issued.
Permits issued through the ICP are valid for seven days. If the individual does not leave the country within this period, the previous permit must be canceled and a new application submitted. A daily fine of AED 50 may be applied starting from the eighth day after the permit expires or is canceled.
Typically, overstay fines must be settled before a departure permit is issued. The standard fine for staying illegally after the permitted period is AED 50 per day, although the length of the grace period following the expiry or cancellation of residency varies depending on the type of visa.
In the event of a lost passport, the individual must provide a loss certificate from the police and a travel document issued by their consulate.
