"Prison saved my life": First Ramadan for UAE-based influencer after 6 months of imprisonment
UAE-Based Influencer Rawan Bin Hussain Embraces Ramadan with Renewed Perspective
Rawan Bin Hussain, the UAE-based influencer, is approaching Ramadan with a different outlook after what she describes as the most challenging year of her life.
The Kuwaiti influencer, entrepreneur, singer, and actress, who boasts over 7 million followers on Instagram and more than 700,000 subscribers on YouTube, has described the past year, through a series of personal notes, as a turning point that has shifted her priorities and perspective on life.
The 29-year-old has spoken candidly about personal growth, accountability, and rebuilding her life, telling her followers that the experience has forced her to re-evaluate her life and strengthen her faith.
In a recent Instagram post, she revealed: "In November 2024, I was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to a suicide attempt. While the whole world thought I had everything, deep down I felt miserable."
She went on to refer to a period filled with personal loss and emotional struggles, writing: "Divorce hurt me, but my mother's death broke me. Instead of grieving, I turned to substance abuse to numb my feelings. To cope, I over-exercised; I worked out for hours until I hurt myself."
Bin Hussain also wrote about her choices during that time: "I decided to overwork myself to keep busy and not have to face myself. I befriended the wrong people, loved the wrong men, and found myself in the wrong crowd, which extinguished the light in my being and my heart."
She concluded her post by writing: "Prison saved my life because I knew otherwise my end would be tragic. I had to lose everything to realize how lucky I am. I was given a second chance to live, to rise, to grow, and to shine; but this time with a different mindset."
She also explained how her approach to Ramadan will be different this year: "This Ramadan, you won't see me dressing up in glamorous outfits. I won't be showing off my appearance or my Iftar and Suhoor spreads as I used to every year. This year, I want to dedicate Ramadan to Allah, our Creator."
