Iranian Olympiacos striker Mehdi Taremi is close to joining Dubai club Al Wasl, with fresh reports from leading Greek media indicating that an agreement has been reached between the parties.

Greek website Gazzetta reported on Thursday, August 20, that Al Wasl had reached an agreement with both Taremi and Olympiacos, and that the 34-year-old Iranian striker was set to travel to the UAE to complete the transfer. Taremi’s contract with Olympiacos runs until the summer of 2027.

Meanwhile, Greece’s Sport24 reported that Taremi made his final visit to Olympiacos’ training centre in Renti on Thursday, bidding farewell to the players, coaching staff and club employees. According to the report, his next destination is Dubai, where he will finalise his move to Al Wasl.

Taremi’s future at Olympiacos had been uncertain in recent weeks. Head coach José Luis Mendilibar omitted him from the club’s European squad for the UEFA Champions League qualifiers, increasing speculation that the Iran international would leave.

Taremi joined Olympiacos from Inter Milan last summer in a transfer worth about €2 million. In his first season with the Greek club, he scored 16 goals and provided six assists in 39 appearances across all competitions.

If the transfer is completed, Taremi will return to football in the region after about seven years. His last spell in Asian football was with Qatar’s Al Gharafa. He left the club for Portugal’s Rio Ave in 2019 before going on to play for Porto, Inter Milan and Olympiacos.

Al Wasl are competing in the new UAE Pro League season under head coach Rui Vitória and began the 2026–2027 campaign with a 5-1 victory over United.

At the time of publication, Al Wasl had not officially announced Mehdi Taremi’s transfer, while no details had been released regarding the transfer fee or the length of his proposed contract. However, the latest reports from Greek media indicate that his move to the Dubai club is in its final stages.
