After extensive speculation over Mehdi Taremi’s future, UAE club Al Wasl officially announced the signing of the Iran international on Monday. Taremi returns to Asia after seven years in European football and will face Iranian representatives Esteghlal and Tractor in the AFC Champions League Elite.

Although Al Wasl and Olympiacos have not disclosed the official transfer fee, several Arab media outlets have valued the deal at $400,000. YSScores also reported the same figure in its coverage of the transfer.

Taremi has left Olympiacos for a relatively low fee, having joined the Greek club from Inter Milan last summer in a deal worth around €2 million. During his only season with Olympiacos, he made 39 appearances across all competitions, scoring 16 goals and providing six assists.

The Iranian striker will now play under Al Wasl’s Portuguese head coach Rui Vitória. Al Wasl finished among the leading teams in the UAE league last season and will also compete in Asian competition this season. According to Reuters, citing Transfermarkt, Taremi’s contract with Al Wasl runs until June 30, 2027.

Taremi, who previously played for Rio Ave, Porto and Inter Milan before joining Olympiacos, has returned to Asian football after several years in Europe. The move comes amid a sharp decline in his market value, making him one of the Emirati club’s least expensive signings.
