UAE-based technology and talent acquisition firm Mahala.ai has launched a new remote hiring model aimed at addressing the shortage of senior data and artificial intelligence specialists in the GCC. The model enables the utilization of international expert talent without sensitive data leaving the country.

The launch comes as regional governments and companies increase investments in sovereign AI, domestic data centers, and locally controlled cloud infrastructure. The UAE and Saudi Arabia are among the nations seeking to maintain greater control over the data, processing power, and technical infrastructure required for AI development.

This trend has driven demand for experienced specialists capable of preparing, integrating, and managing enterprise data before the large-scale implementation of AI systems. However, many of these senior professionals are based outside the region and may be reluctant to relocate for temporary projects.

Mahala.ai announced it will provide data engineers, data scientists, AI and machine learning specialists, and MLOps experts on a remote basis to government, semi-government, and private sector entities in the UAE and other GCC countries.

These specialists will operate through each organization's dedicated secure infrastructure or Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environments. According to the company, this structure ensures that sensitive and regulated data remains within the country while allowing organizations to leverage international expertise.

The model is specifically designed for sectors such as government, financial services, insurance, energy, transport, and logistics—areas where data security and residency requirements often make hiring remote international talent challenging.

Amir Grabic, co-founder and CEO of Mahala.ai, stated that GCC countries do not lack AI ambition; rather, the primary challenge is a severe shortage of specialists who can practically implement the technology, many of whom are unwilling to relocate to the region.

According to Mahala.ai, the company provides a shortlist of two or three suitable candidates within 72 hours of receiving a request. Applicants are evaluated based on technical skills, enterprise project experience, consulting capabilities, and readiness to comply with legal and regulatory requirements, requiring a minimum score of 75 out of 100 to join the network. The company estimates that only about one in seven applicants is accepted.

The educational and professional backgrounds of accepted candidates are independently verified by DataFlow. Mahala.ai also provides legal and compliance support under a single contract and offers a one-month replacement guarantee if the selected specialist does not meet the organization's needs.

The company stated that its founders have a background in enterprise technology implementation, digital transformation, and regulated industries. Mahala.ai aims to operate as a specialized technology project partner rather than a mass recruitment agency.
