Dubai Installs Smart Benches and Mobile-Charging Light Poles
Dubai has announced the installation of solar-powered smart benches and lighting poles equipped with mobile phone charging ports along the Dubai Water Canal, allowing residents and tourists to charge their electronic devices while relaxing or exploring the area.
The Dubai Civility Committee introduced the new facilities along the Dubai Water Canal, a popular tourist destination for walking, running, cycling, boating and enjoying views of the city.
The new smart benches feature a modern black design, are powered by solar energy and come equipped with wireless charging pads. Visitors can charge mobile phones and other Qi-compatible devices without cables while seated.
Lighting poles in the area have also been fitted with charging ports. Each pole features two USB-A ports with output currents of 1 amp and 2.1 amps, protected by waterproof covers.
Dubai’s Urban Aesthetics Steering Committee said the initiative aims to enhance visitor comfort and improve quality of life in public spaces. According to the committee, combining solar power, charging technology and functional design can improve the experience of residents and tourists in public areas.
Smart benches have previously been installed in Dubai. In 2018, Al Mamzar Beach Park became Dubai’s first official smart park, featuring benches equipped with fast wireless charging, USB ports and free Wi-Fi.
In recent years, solar-powered benches have also been installed in several other parks across Dubai. “Smart Palm” stations in some parks and beaches provide USB device charging, free internet access and useful information.
Smart benches have also been installed outside several Dubai Police stations. Powered by solar energy, they offer mobile phone charging, high-speed internet and weather updates.
