Visitors to Dubai's coastline may have spotted an unusual marine guest this week after the popular restaurant 3 Fils shared a video appearing to show a whale shark swimming near its premises.

The restaurant posted footage of the large spotted fish gliding through the water alongside the pier on its Instagram story, captioned: "Unexpected guest! Spotted whale shark."

The sighting quickly gained traction online, with viewers noting the creature's distinct white spots and broad head—characteristic features of whale sharks.

Whale sharks are the world's largest fish species and are considered harmless to humans. They are occasionally spotted in UAE waters, particularly when food sources draw them closer to the coastline.

While sightings are typically reported in offshore waters, encounters near busy coastal areas and restaurants are relatively rare, making the appearance a surprise for diners and passersby.

The restaurant did not specify when the footage was filmed but shared the video on its social media account on Monday.
