UAE Orders Batch Recall After Contamination Found in Three-Ply Masks
The Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) has ordered the precautionary recall of a batch of blue three-ply medical masks from the UAE market. The decision followed a product quality complaint and the discovery of foreign matter or signs of contamination in some masks inspected.
According to a notice issued on October 12, 2026, the recall applies to Nin 160 FMB-NML Facemask C G blue 3PLY masks from production batch 20251015.
The EDE said inspections conducted after it received the quality complaint found foreign matter or signs of contamination in several masks from the affected batch.
The distributor has been ordered to immediately withdraw all affected products from the UAE market, halt their sale and distribution, and quarantine remaining stocks to prevent them from being supplied again.
The company must also provide the EDE with details of the number of masks imported, distributed, recalled and remaining in storage, along with a list of distribution locations across the UAE.
The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) also issued Circular No. 42/2026 on October 12, instructing healthcare facilities and private-sector health professionals in Dubai to comply with the recall guidelines.
Under the guidelines, healthcare facilities, health service providers and pharmaceutical establishments must immediately stop the sale, supply, distribution and use of masks from the affected batch, quarantine existing stocks and arrange for the products to be returned to the supplier.
UAE citizens and residents have also been advised to check the batch number on their masks. Anyone in possession of masks from the recalled batch, numbered 20251015, should stop using them and return them to the place of purchase or the supplier.
Any quality issues or suspected adverse effects linked to the product should be reported through the EDE’s official channels.
The recall applies only to the specified batch and does not cover all three-ply masks available in the UAE market.
