His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has approved new administrative divisions for Khorfakkan. Under the plan, the city will be divided into four areas: Khorfakkan City, Al Owainat, Al Seeh and Al Subaihiya. The city’s development zone will extend from the entrance to Khorfakkan to Al Luluyah.

The Ruler of Sharjah also announced that measures were under way to expand healthcare capacity in Kalba. He said the Ministry of Health and Prevention had been contacted following reports of overcrowding at the city’s hospital and clinics. Steps have been initiated to increase the number of doctors, ensure medicine supplies, expand facilities and carry out construction projects.

Studies and tenders have also begun for hospitals in Kalba, Khorfakkan and Dibba Al Hisn similar to the Al Madam University Hospital branch. Sheikh Sultan said the Sharjah Health Authority could complete the construction of these facilities within about five to six months, with the required funding already allocated in the budget.

Plans to expand green spaces are also included in Khorfakkan’s urban development programme. Specialist companies will plant dense, fruit-bearing trees across parts of the newly added land, alongside projects to enhance the area’s natural environment.

In Al Owainat, sections of the mountains will be levelled to create residential neighbourhoods, while Al Seeh will include areas around Al Owaim Mountain and the Shukair Mountains. The Ruler of Sharjah had previously announced studies to level part of the summit of Al Owaim Mountain for the development of a new residential district in Khorfakkan.

Authorities will also examine mechanisms for establishing local councils to manage the new areas. Officials will be appointed to individual neighbourhoods to directly address residents’ concerns, requests and needs.
