Dubai RTA Reinforces E-Scooter Safety Regulations on Public Transport

Dubai, UAE – The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has issued a reminder regarding safety regulations for carrying electric scooters on the Dubai Metro and public buses. The guidelines aim to ensure the safety of riders and the comfort of other passengers.

Electric scooters are a popular mode of transportation in Dubai, but their use on public transport requires adherence to specific standards, according to the RTA.

◀️ RTA's 8 Rules for Passengers with Scooters:

1. Size Restrictions: Only scooters with maximum dimensions of 120 x 70 x 120 cm are permitted on public transport.

2. Intercity Bus Ban: Scooters are prohibited on intercity buses.

3. Limited Capacity: The total number of scooters in a train carriage or bus must not exceed two at any time.

4. Cleanliness and Condition: Scooters must be completely clean, dry, and folded when boarding.

5. Entry and Exit: "Wide doors" must be used when boarding or disembarking with a scooter.

6. Designated Areas: Scooters must be placed only in designated and dedicated spaces.

7. Securing with Straps: The use of restraint straps in approved anchor points is mandatory to prevent scooter movement.

8. Complete Stop: Riders must ensure that the scooter remains completely stationary and stable throughout the journey.

◀️ Age Restrictions and Fines

Under current Dubai regulations, the use of electric scooters is permitted only for individuals aged 16 and above. Dubai Police and RTA officials closely monitor compliance with scooter traffic laws. For example, carrying an additional passenger on an electric scooter carries a fine of AED 300.
