An informed source told Iranians in the UAE that Iranian airlines were notified on the evening of Wednesday, September 23, that their flights would be barred from entering the UAE until further notice. Accordingly, Iranian airline services to Dubai will be suspended from Thursday, September 24.

The decision comes after Georgia, Azerbaijan and Oman halted flights operated by Iranian airlines, while Iranian services to Baghdad have also faced restrictions. Pressure on Iran’s international flights has intensified in recent days, coinciding with the implementation of a new round of US sanctions.

The US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control imposed a new package of sanctions on Iran’s aviation industry on September 8, covering all 27 Iranian airlines.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also said that, from September 23, companies providing Iranian airlines with fuel, airport services or ticketing services would risk sanctions and restricted access to the US dollar-based financial system. He said the measures were intended to halt the international operations of Iranian airlines.
