US Issues New Warning Over Rising Risk of Attacks in Middle East; Flights May Be Cancelled and Airspace Closed
The US diplomatic mission in the UAE issued a new security alert on Saturday, November 7, 2026, urging American citizens in the Middle East to remain vigilant amid a heightened risk of armed attacks. The alert cited threats attributed to Yemen’s Houthis and what Washington describes as Iranian efforts to target US government officials in the region.
The US mission in the UAE also warned of possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and disruptions to regional travel, urging American citizens to be prepared for potential changes to their travel plans.
According to the published alert, US citizens in the Middle East should exercise increased caution and vigilance due to the heightened risk of attacks by Iran-backed Houthis and alleged efforts by Tehran to target US government officials.
However, the notice provided no details of any imminent threat to a specific location in the UAE or of any new attack in the country.
US Warns of Houthi Attacks and Regional Tensions
The latest warning from the US mission comes amid Washington’s continued security concerns over regional conflicts and attacks by Yemen’s Houthis on Saudi Arabia.
US officials previously said the Houthis had targeted civilian airports and other critical infrastructure in Saudi Arabia. According to Washington, the attacks caused civilian casualties and widespread travel disruption.
The US State Department has also warned that the continued conflict could lead to a rapid escalation of tensions and their spread beyond the current areas of confrontation.
Washington had previously expressed concern that Iran or Iran-aligned groups could target US interests overseas.
However, these statements form part of the US government’s security assessments and warnings and should not be interpreted as confirmation of a new attack or the identification of a specific target in the UAE.
Possible Flight Cancellations and Airspace Closures
One focus of the latest warning is the potential for disruption to air travel in the Middle East.
The US mission said heightened security threats could lead to flight cancellations, airspace closures and disruption to regional travel.
US citizens planning to travel to Middle Eastern countries or fly through the region’s airspace should therefore be prepared for sudden changes to their travel plans.
In its general guidance, the US Department of State urged travellers to check their flight status with the relevant airline before departure and monitor security notices issued by embassies and the relevant authorities.
However, the issuance of a security warning does not in itself mean that flights will be cancelled, UAE airports will close or the country’s airspace will be shut.
Has the US Raised Its Travel Advisory Level for the UAE?
A review of the US State Department’s official guidance shows that its travel advisory for the UAE remains at Level 3 of four.
Level 3, designated “Reconsider Travel,” applies to the UAE because of concerns over terrorism and armed conflict.
The latest update recorded in the advisory was on October 23, 2026.
On that date, the US State Department revised the advisory’s security information, citing the heightened risk of potential attacks by Iran-backed Houthis and alleged attempts by Tehran to target US officials. However, it did not change the advisory level or risk indicators.
Therefore, the November 7 security alert does not mean the UAE’s travel advisory has been raised or that the country has been moved to Level 4, “Do Not Travel.”
Security Advice for US Citizens
The US Department of State has advised citizens travelling to the Middle East to monitor security conditions and be prepared for possible changes to their travel plans.
US travellers can also enrol in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive security alerts from US embassies and consulates.
The State Department’s general recommendations also include monitoring official news and announcements, checking flight statuses, following instructions from local authorities and having contingency plans for emergencies.
The new alert from the US mission in the UAE comes as Washington has expressed concern over the potential expansion of regional conflicts.
However, the notice primarily calls for heightened vigilance among US citizens across the Middle East. The published advisory does not identify any specific or imminent threat to a particular location in the UAE.
