The body of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the former Emir and Father Emir of Qatar, was laid to rest in Lusail Cemetery on Sunday evening, July 12, 2026, following funeral prayers in Doha.

Funeral prayers for the former Emir of Qatar were held at the Imam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab Mosque, where Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, participated in carrying his father's casket. Members of the Al Thani family, senior government officials, and a large number of Qatari citizens attended the ceremony.

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who was 74 at the time of his passing, served as the Emir of Qatar from 1995 to 2013. His reign was marked by the development of the gas industry, the expansion of foreign investments, and the enhancement of Qatar's political and media influence on regional and international stages. In June 2013, he voluntarily abdicated the throne in favor of his son, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
