Senior Officials from Makkah Defence Coalition Member States Visit Tehran
Senior officials from Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan will meet Iranian officials in Tehran as part of efforts to implement a homegrown security framework in West Asia. According to information obtained by Anadolu Agency from Turkish security sources, Ibrahim Kalin, head of Turkey’s National Intelligence Organisation, will also attend the meeting.
Ali Bagheri, deputy secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, told Iranian television on Monday, October 26, that senior officials from the three members of the Makkah Defence Alliance — Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan — would travel to Tehran.
Bagheri said Saudi Defence Minister Khalid bin Salman, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir and a senior Turkish official would attend the meeting and hold talks with Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
Bagheri added that regional security issues would be discussed, stressing that Iran opposes interference and influence by foreign powers in the region.
He did not announce a date for the meeting, but Iranian media reported that it would take place today.
Raed Krimli, Saudi Arabia’s deputy foreign minister for public diplomacy, also confirmed the visit in a post on X. He said officials from the Makkah Defence Alliance member states would meet Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian as well as Rezaei.
Krimli said the visit was part of efforts by the alliance’s members to ease tensions in the ongoing crisis between the US and Iran, encourage dialogue and diplomatic solutions, and support mediation efforts by Qatar and Pakistan.
He added that the consultations underscored the key role of the Makkah Defence Alliance’s members in strengthening regional security and stability, as well as their determination to work with all countries in the region to achieve that goal.
