The memorandum of understanding to end the war between Iran and the United States, known as the "Islamabad Memorandum," was signed early Thursday, June 18, 2026, by the presidents of both nations.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and his American counterpart, Donald Trump, signed the document digitally and remotely within a short timeframe of each other.

The White House and IRNA, the official news agency of the Islamic Republic, released images showing the two presidents signing the physical copies of the agreement.

Simultaneously, the White House posted a video on its X account featuring Donald Trump signing the paper version of the document.

The IRNA news agency has released photographs showing Masoud Pezeshkian signing the document.

According to IRNA, as Pakistan served as the mediator in the diplomatic process leading to the Islamabad agreement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will also sign the memorandum of understanding.

Pakistan, acting as the primary mediator between Iran and the United States, stated that following the signing by both presidents, the preliminary agreement between Tehran and Washington has come into effect immediately.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif posted on X on Thursday morning: "Iran will reopen the Strait of Hormuz without delay, and the United States will immediately lift the naval blockade of Iranian ports."

Sharif further noted that Pakistan, alongside Qatar—another mediator between the two nations—will host an official ceremony in Switzerland on Friday to mark this historic development and initiate technical discussions.
