British Airways Extends Flight Suspension to Dubai Amid Regional Tensions
British Airways has extended the suspension of its flights to Dubai and other Middle Eastern cities until the summer, citing the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. Flights to Dubai, Bahrain, Amman, and Tel Aviv have been cancelled until May 31, while flights to Doha are cancelled until April 30. The British airline is instead adding new routes and increasing capacity on existing routes in Southeast Asia.
The company stated on its website that it has helped thousands of passengers return to their home countries since the start of the conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel on February 28, and has also operated eight relief flights from Muscat.
Niall Chernoff, British Airways' Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, said: "We know that as a result of the situation in the Middle East, there is short-term demand elsewhere. To support customers by offering alternative routes from popular destinations, we have already launched additional flights and will continue to monitor demand and add more flights to our schedule where possible."
Since the start of the conflict, the UAE has faced continuous threats from Iran against its air corridors and other critical infrastructure. On Monday morning, Emirates Airline temporarily suspended all flights to Dubai International Airport (DXB) before resuming them several hours later. This action followed a drone-related incident that affected fuel tanks; an incident that authorities confirmed resulted in no casualties or injuries.
