An Indian worker living in the UAE who lost his left leg in a road accident in Ajman has received a total of AED 655,341 in compensation and legal costs following court proceedings.

Sudheer, 38, from the Indian state of Kerala, has lived in the UAE for about 15 years and worked as a lift technician. At the time of the accident in May 2025, he was a supervisor at a company in Ajman.

According to his lawyer, Sudheer was travelling to a worksite with several other workers in a company vehicle when the driver lost control. The vehicle first struck a raised pedestrian walkway and then a utility pole, severely injuring his left leg.

Sudheer was taken to NMC Royal Hospital in Jebel Ali, Dubai. Doctors tried to save his leg, but the severity of the injuries required a below-the-knee amputation. He also sustained injuries to his right leg and remains under treatment.

Following the accident, his lawyer filed a claim against the insurance company in the Dubai courts, seeking AED 1 million in compensation. The claim cited his inability to continue working, the physical and psychological harm he suffered, and the impact of the accident on his wife and two children.

The Court of First Instance initially awarded AED 400,000 in compensation. Following an appeal, a higher court increased the amount to AED 600,000. The insurance company ultimately transferred AED 655,341 to Sudheer’s account, including compensation and legal costs.

However, the case is not yet fully concluded. Sudheer’s lawyer said a further appeal had been filed with the Dubai Court of Cassation, seeking higher compensation on the grounds that the current amount is insufficient given the worker’s permanent disability and ongoing medical needs.
