Iranian dhows may once again enter Sharjah after obtaining security clearance. However, for return journeys to Iran, they are currently permitted to load only food and pharmaceutical supplies and must complete loading and departure procedures within 21 days.

According to Iranians in the UAE, the conditions were discussed among maritime trade operators on Thursday, September 24. However, as of publication, Sharjah authorities had not issued an official announcement on the matter.

Under the reported rules, dhows must obtain security approval before entering Sharjah. Each vessel must also arrive empty or carry only food cargo.

At present, return cargoes bound for Iran are limited to the approved goods—food and pharmaceutical supplies. Once loading is complete, the dhows must leave the emirate in accordance with Sharjah regulations.
