Following the death of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the brother of Dubai’s Ruler, accounts have emerged of his personal support for families in need. These include funding a man’s medical treatment abroad for several years and providing financial assistance to the family of an Al Wasl Club employee.

Emirati pilot and content creator Rashid Al Falasi said in an Instagram video that Sheikh Ahmed had paid for his father’s treatment overseas from his personal funds for years. He said Sheikh Ahmed’s support went beyond covering the expenses, as he regularly enquired about his father’s health.

Al Falasi said the family of Bakhit Salem and residents of their neighbourhood had benefited from Sheikh Ahmed’s assistance. The family also has close ties to the history of Al Wasl Club, which began operating in 1960 under the name Al Zamalek at the home of Bakhit Salem Al Falasi in Zabeel.

Another example of Sheikh Ahmed’s support dates back to 2021. Following the sudden death of Dr Mohammed Ismail, director of Al Wasl Club’s swimming academy, Sheikh Ahmed ordered that his salary continue to be paid to his family until his youngest daughter, who was three at the time, turned 18. The decision amounted to a commitment to support the family financially for about 15 years.

Ahmed Al Teneiji, chairman of Al Wasl Football Company, also reflected on his close relationship with Sheikh Ahmed in a social media post, saying he had been more than a club chairman to him, serving as a father figure and mentor.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum died on Monday, September 21, 2026, at the age of 76. He was Deputy Chairman of Dubai Police and Public Security and chairman of Al Wasl Sports Club. Dubai declared 10 days of official mourning following his death.
