President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has sent a message of congratulations to Andy Burnham on his appointment as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed wished Burnham success in leading his country toward further progress, expressing his keenness to work together to strengthen bilateral relations.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, also congratulated the new British Prime Minister. He expressed his commitment to enhancing the strategic partnership between the UAE and the UK and developing the historic and exceptional ties between the two nations.

In April 2026, Keir Starmer, the former British Prime Minister succeeded by Burnham, met with the UAE President in Abu Dhabi. At the time, Starmer offered his condolences over the loss of life in Iranian attacks and expressed solidarity with the people of the UAE.

The leaders also agreed to further strengthen UK-UAE relations across a wide range of sectors, including innovation, trade, and investment.

Andy Burnham was appointed as the new Prime Minister on Monday following a meeting with King Charles III at Buckingham Palace.

He served as a Member of Parliament from 2001 to 2017 and held ministerial positions in the governments of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown.

Burnham, who previously served as the Mayor of Greater Manchester, is widely known by the nickname King of the North.
