UK Updates Entry Rules for Travelers from Dubai

The UK government has updated its entry requirements for travelers arriving from Dubai and other destinations worldwide. Emirates Airline has issued a statement informing passengers of these changes.

Introducing the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) System

Effective Wednesday, February 26, 2026, all travelers who do not require a visa for short stays (up to 6 months) in the UK must obtain an ETA before traveling. Boarding will be denied without this electronic authorization.

Cost and Validity

Applying for an ETA costs approximately AED 80 (GBP 16). This digital permit allows tourists to stay in the UK for up to 6 months for tourism or family visits.

Who Needs an ETA?

Foreign nationals who currently travel to the UK without a visa (including citizens of GCC countries).
All family members, including infants and children, must have a separate ETA.

Who Does Not Need an ETA?

Holders of British or Irish passports.
Individuals with valid UK residence, work, or study permits.
* British citizens residing in Dubai (estimated at 240,000) are not affected by this new regulation.

Transition to Electronic Visas (eVisa)

The UK is phasing out physical immigration documents. Individuals holding Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) or physical endorsements in their passports must convert their documents to an eVisa on the UK government website.

Why This Matters to Dubai

The UK is a popular travel destination for Dubai residents, with Emirates Airline operating over 140 weekly flights to various cities in the country. The new ETA system aims to make the entry process more digital and efficient, similar to the US ESTA system.
