Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority has informed Iranian airlines that all their flights to the country will be suspended from today, Tuesday, September 22, 2026, until further notice. The decision comes just one day before a new phase of US restrictions on Iran’s aviation industry takes effect.

According to an email obtained by Iranians in the UAE, Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority informed “all Iranian airlines” that all their flights to the Sultanate of Oman would be halted “with immediate effect and until further notice”.

The email, sent on Tuesday afternoon, September 22, informed Iranian airlines that flights scheduled for this evening would be the last permitted services and that the aircraft involved must leave the Muscat Flight Information Region by the end of the day without delay.

The directive gave no reason for the suspension.

The decision expands flight restrictions on Iranian airlines. Previously, only Mahan Air had suspended its flights to Muscat.

Oman’s decision comes as the United States prepares to intensify pressure from September 23 on foreign companies and organisations providing services to Iranian airlines. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has warned that companies offering services such as refuelling, ground handling or ticket sales to Iranian airlines could face US sanctions.

On September 8, the US Treasury Department also added 27 Iranian airlines to its sanctions list, saying the move brought Iran’s remaining airlines under Washington’s sanctions.

As of the time of publication, no similar official announcement had been issued regarding the suspension of all Iranian airline flights to the UAE or Türkiye.
