UAE schools to increase teacher recruitment for 2026-27 academic year
UAE schools are ramping up teacher recruitment as the 2026-27 academic year approaches, particularly in high-demand fields such as STEM, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, and Early Years education.
Rising student enrollment, curriculum expansions, and the opening of new schools have ensured that recruitment remains active in the education sector, despite many positions already being filled.
Dino Varkey, Group CEO of GEMS Education, stated that schools are seeking teachers who possess adaptability, emotional intelligence, cultural awareness, and a commitment to student well-being, in addition to accredited qualifications and subject expertise. He noted that successful teachers are those who foster curiosity, critical thinking, and innovation in their students.
At the Taaleem group, most positions for the upcoming academic year have been filled through international recruitment campaigns. Nicky Williams, the group’s Director of Education, said competition remains high for specialist teachers, particularly in mathematics and science. She added that Harrow International School Dubai, set to open in August 2026, has already received thousands of applications from teachers worldwide.
Punit MK Vasu, CEO of The Indian High Group of Schools, said demand is increasing for teachers in mathematics, science, AI, computer science, and interdisciplinary fields. The group has also expanded recruitment for Early Years and primary education.
According to Vasu, teacher retention is as vital as recruitment. Schools are investing in professional development, leadership pathways, and staff well-being to retain high-performing talent.
School leaders noted that expectations for teachers have evolved. Educators who can utilize digital technologies and AI-based tools to personalize learning for students are now highly sought after, alongside their subject knowledge.
Recruitment also continues in several areas at Springdales School Dubai. Principal David Jones said hiring needs are primarily driven by teacher replacements and curriculum expansion, particularly at the secondary level.
Noufal Ahmed, Founder and CEO of Woodlem Education, stated that the group is planning recruitment across all levels, from Early Years to Grade 12, due to growth in student enrollment. He noted that special value is placed on candidates with prior teaching experience in the UAE.
Education leaders emphasize that the UAE remains an attractive destination for international teachers. However, alongside attracting global talent, local experience, technological proficiency, adaptability, and a commitment to student growth have become more important than ever.
