Dubai Police officers responded to a traffic accident on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, assisting the driver and caring for her two dogs. They also requested a pet ambulance to transport one of the dogs to a veterinary clinic.

The incident occurred on Monday as Lumia Khan, a Pakistani resident of the UAE, was travelling to Dubai’s Mirdif area to visit her parents.

Another vehicle struck her car from behind, leaving the driver and her two dogs frightened and distressed. However, none of them suffered physical injuries.

Lumia, who was accompanied by her two dogs — Babush, a husky, and Arya, an Australian shepherd — told Khaleej Times that after the collision, she was more concerned about her pets than the damage to her car.

She said: “A vehicle hit my car from behind, and the impact was severe. We were all physically unharmed, but we were extremely shaken. Since my dogs were with me, I had to manage the situation.”

Police Officers Voluntarily Care for Dogs After Crash

When Dubai Police arrived at the scene, two officers noticed that Lumia was alone and had to deal with both the accident procedures and the care of her dogs.

Without being asked, the officers took care of the dogs so the driver could complete the administrative procedures related to the accident.

Describing the officers’ response, Lumia said: “They were extremely kind. While I was completing the accident paperwork, they looked after my dogs, guided me and helped me remain calm.”

Animal Ambulance Arrives in Under 10 Minutes

After seeing Baboosh’s condition and realising the dog was distressed, a police officer immediately requested a dedicated pet ambulance.

According to Lumia, the ambulance arrived at the scene in under 10 minutes.

Police officers also escorted the animal ambulance to the veterinary clinic to ensure the dog was transported safely.

Lumia said: “The police drove ahead of the ambulance so they could reach the clinic safely. Instead of feeling traumatised by the accident, I felt grateful.”

She also posted a video of the incident on her Instagram account.

Pakistani Resident Praises Dubai Police Response

Lumia Khan, who was born in Khor Fakkan and has lived in the UAE all her life, said the experience reinforced her sense of belonging and gratitude towards the country she calls home.

She said: “It is a blessing to live in a country that treats pets well. I immediately thought of cities elsewhere in the world where it is difficult even to request an ambulance for people. I am truly happy that we live in the UAE.”

According to Lumia, the accident occurred at around 4pm. As the administrative procedures had not been completed, she was unable to return home early, and both dogs spent the night at the veterinary clinic.

Reaction on Social Media

Lumia, who lives in Dubai’s Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC), owns four dogs and runs a company called “Furrari,” which organises leisure and adventure tours for pet owners.

She is also a well-known member of the UAE’s animal welfare community.

After she shared a video and an account of the incident on social media, many people contacted her to express concern about the dogs and share similar experiences.

Lumia said her car was badly damaged in the crash and is still awaiting repairs. However, more than the financial loss, what has stayed with her is the police officers’ conduct and their swift response to the needs of her pets.

She said the experience had further deepened her appreciation for living in Dubai and the UAE.
