Brett Lee, the former Australian cricket star and one of the fastest bowlers in the sport’s history, said that after moving to Dubai with his family, his only regret is not deciding to live in the UAE sooner.

The 49-year-old said in an exclusive interview that he moved to Dubai around 15 months ago and is extremely pleased with his decision.

Safety and New Opportunities: Why He Is Happy Living in Dubai

Lee explained that before moving, he primarily knew the UAE as a destination for short visits, sporting events or flight stopovers.

He said a business opportunity prompted him to consider living in Dubai, a decision that meant leaving behind his family’s peaceful and fulfilling life in Australia.

However, Lee said that Dubai’s safety, living environment, sporting opportunities and amenities have left him satisfied with his choice.

The former cricket star said his children attend school in a multicultural environment and are even learning Arabic, something he had never imagined before the move.

He added that his wife and children are also happy with life in the UAE, and that his family’s sense of safety is one of the greatest benefits of living in Dubai.

A New Life After Retiring from Professional Cricket

Lee, who will turn 50 on November 8, 2026, retired from international cricket in 2012 and from professional cricket in 2015.

He also competed in veterans’ tournaments in 2025, but now prefers to stay away from the pressures of professional competition and occasionally plays cricket with his children in the garden at home.

In September 2026, Lee was also named an ambassador for the fifth season of the UAE’s International League T20 (ILT20).

Dubai Brings Lee Closer to Indian Fans

The Australian believes Dubai’s geographical location has made it easier for him to connect with cricket fans in India and other South Asian countries.

He explained that he can now travel to India quickly for work commitments and meetings with fans, whereas such trips took considerably longer from Australia.

Lee concluded that his only regret is not moving to Dubai sooner.
